Mautic is a free, open-source marketing automation platform that enables businesses to track website visitors, manage leads, and automate multi-channel campaigns (email, SMS, social media).

Most marketing automation tools are proprietary and closed source. Salesforce (Pardot), MailChimp, Sendinblue are just a few big players to name. Mautic gives you an open source alternative to these costly tools – yet is technically speaking on a similar level. You can run Mautic on-premise or on your own Cloud infrastructure, making sure you have the sovereignty of user data.
Budget cuts – Mautic facing potential dissolution
However, the Mautic project ran into financial troubles. The project lead (Ruth Cheesley) posted an urgent call for community support, to help secure the financial future of the project.
Mautic faces a significant revenue shortfall in 2026, exacerbated by budget cuts and lost key contributions. The project's council already cut costs by 40%, especially on the number of assigned project lead hours and eliminated non-essential spending. But without additional funding, the project is risking its viability as a privacy-centric alternative to proprietary tools.
To address this, the Council launched a fundraiser targeting $40,000 by March 2026 for immediate needs and a $10,000 reserve (with a $60,000 stretch goal). Donations via the fundraiser page, Mautic memberships, Open Collective, or corporate pledges are encouraged, alongside widespread sharing.
